You Know You're in Missouri When...
I'm a Missouri Girl - born and bred right here in the heartland. I've never lived anywhere else. Even during my college tours, I never left Missouri. So when my Aunt Sandy sent me this email, I had to post it here. It's just so funny... if you're from Missourah!

I've decided to place in bold the ones that truly are descriptive of me or my family...

Growing up in Missouri

1. You've never met any celebrities.
2. Everyone you know has been on a "Float Trip."
3. "Vacation" means driving to Branson, Silver Dollar City, Worlds of Fun or Six Flags.
4. You've seen all the biggest bands ten years AFTER they were popular.
5. You measure distance in minutes rather than miles. For example, “Well, Webb City 's only 20 minutes away."
6. Down south to you means Arkansas .
7. The phrase "I'm going to the Lake this weekend" only means one thing.
8. You know several people who have hit a deer.
9. You think Missouri is spelled with an "ah" at the end. (That would be my husband!)
10. Your school classes were cancelled because of cold.
11. You know what "Party Cove" is.
12. Your school classes were cancelled because of heat.
13. You instinctively ask someone you've just met, "What High School did you go to?" (I do this all the time!)
14. You've had to switch from "heat" to "A/C" in the same day. (Truly this does happen in my house!)
15. You think ethanol makes your truck "run a lot better."
16. You know what's knee-high by the Fourth of July.
17. You see people wear bib overalls at funerals.
18. You see a car running in the parking lot at the store with no one in it, no matter what time of day.
19. You know in your heart that Mizzou can beat Nebraska in football.
20. You end your sentences with an unnecessary preposition. Example: "Where's my coat at?"
21. All the festivals across the state are named after a fruit, vegetable, or grain.
22. You install security lights on your house and garage and leave both unlocked.
23. You think of the major four food groups as beef, pork, beer, and Jell-O salad with marshmallows.
24. You carry jumper cables in your car and know that everyone else should.
25. You went to skating parties as a kid.
26. You only own three spices: salt, pepper, and ketchup.
27. You design your kid's Halloween costume to fit over a snowsuit.
28. You think sexy lingerie is tube socks and a flannel nightie.
29. The local paper covers national and international headlines on one page, but requires six pages for sports.
30. You think I-44 is spelled and pronounced "farty-far." ( St. Louis only.)
31. You'll pay for your kids to go to college unless they want to go to KU.
32. You think that "deer season" is a National Holiday.
33. You know that Concordia is halfway between Kansas City and Columbia , and Columbia is halfway between St. Louis and Kansas City , and the Warrenton Outlet Mall is halfway between Columbia and St. Louis.
34. You can't think of anything better than sitting on the porch in the middle of the summer during a thunderstorm.
35. You know which leaves make good toilet paper.
36. You've said, "it's not the heat, it's the humidity."
37. You know all four seasons: Almost Summer, Summer, Still Summer and Football.
38. You know if another Missourian is from the Boot-heel, Ozarks, Eastern, Middle or Western Missouri soon as they open their mouth.
39. You know that Harry S Truman, Walt Disney and Mark Twain are all from Missouri.
40. You failed World Geography in school because you thought Cuba , Versailles , California , Nevada , Houston , Cabool , Louisiana , Springfield , and Mexico were cities in Missouri . (And they are!)
41 You think a traffic jam is ten cars waiting to pass a tractor.
42. You know what "HOME OF THE THROWED ROLL" means.

On our trip home from Branson this past weekend, I asked Phil if he wanted to stop at #42 for lunch on the way home... and he didn't!! There is something seriously wrong with him. Oh yeah, that's right - he's not really a true-blue Missourian. He may have been born here, but he spent more time elsewhere... he can't pass for a Missourian!

Why else would he want to pass up the home of the throwed rolls?!

If you are reading this and are from Missouri, please leave me a comment and let me know how true you think this is... and which number is most descriptive of you!

More about our trip to Branson soon...

Comfort Zone Quiz Check
I love how so many people took my quiz - and some of you seem to know me so well - some not so much! (Psst Diana - you and I will be talking soon about your answers!)

Answers to my Quiz:

How did I meet Phil? In the singles Sunday school department at my church. (My sister-in-law Diana answered that I met him in a bar. Seriously?!)

How old was I when I married? The ripe ol' age of 30

Where did we honeymoon? Kiawah Island, SC

How many siblings do I have? 2 brothers

How many colleges did I attend? 4 - and yes I did graduate, thank you very much.

What is my dream job? Church Secretary
I need to write a whole post on this answer as I'm sure many of you are wondering why I answered it the way I did. I'll get to that soon.

What is my maiden name? Liggett

How many internet moms helped me survive motherhood? 10
I also would love to someday write about these 10 remarkable women here - but I always thought maybe one or two of these 10 women would have already written so eloquently about them... and I would have not done it justice.

We're getting ready to take a Spring Break here in the Comfort Zone.

Yes, Mama's leaving the comfort zone.

We're going to relax, read, chill with the family and spend some time in the sun.

Be back soon with more comfort zone moments.

This Kinda Makes Me Feel Young!
I thought this was kinda cute - especially since I just posted on how I wish I was young again. After reading these, I guess I can still feel a bit young (or at least in the present) knowing that I do the majority of these below.

YOU KNOW YOU ARE LIVING IN 2007 when...

1. You accidentally enter your password on the microwave.

2. You haven't played solitaire with real cards in years.

3. You have a list of 15 phone numbers to reach your family of three... so true

4. You e-mail the person who works at the desk next to you... do it all the time - and I wonder why my tush has spread

5. Your reason for not staying in touch with friends and family is that they don't have e-mail addresses.... or I can't find their email address

6. You pull up in your own driveway and use your cell phone to see if anyone is home to help you carry in the groceries... or if they have already been to the mailbox - otherwise I'll need to put my car in reverse to back it up the 3 houses down I must go to get the mail

7. Every commercial on television has a web site at the bottom of the screen.

8. Leaving the house without your cell phone, which you didn't have the first 20 or 30 (or 60) years of your life, is now a cause for panic and you turn around to go and get it... and have done this several times!

10. You get up in the morning and go on line before getting your coffee... or brushing your teeth, or taking a shower for that matter

11. You start tilting your head sideways to smile. : )

12. You're reading this and nodding and laughing... oh so very much!

13. Even worse, you know exactly to whom you are going to forward this message... my mom!

14. You are too busy to notice there was no #9 on this list... yup, didn't notice.

15. You actually scrolled back up to check that there wasn't a #9 on this list... yup, did that too.

And now you are laughing at yourself!!

I have a post that I would like to publish - but it is a post that involves questions from the heart. Do you think it is a good idea to post honest emotions? Should I post them to release my brain, should I pray about them and leave them in my heart, or should I go see a therapist? I really want your honest opinions on this so if you read me and care to comment, I would really appreciate it.

"Perry, I'll Pray For You"
Those are the exact words I overheard tonight as I was watching Access Hollywood my friend's kids tonight while she was at a PTA meeting. No, I don't go to PTA. I have much better things to do with my time like watching Grey's Anatomy or catching up on reading the latest best-seller... oh, forget crossing any of those out. I really have nothing else better to do, I just don't go.

Anyway, while my good friend C was at her PTA meeting being extremely interested in all things PTA, her boys were over here entertaining my son. Which is exactly how I see it. When any one of Perry's friends hangs out at my house - I score free entertainment for him... and more time for me.

I heart Perry's friends.

Oh don't worry, I do hang out a little while with them...I feed them donuts... I go downstairs and talk until they look at me all weird like. And then look at Perry like why is your mom hanging out with us downstairs while we play pokemon? Then I go back up to my free time.

So, getting back to my spying, I overhear that Perry doesn't have the coveted Pokemon card. I'm not sure which one it is - but he doesn't have it. His friend G has it, and is willing to trade it to Perry, except his older, all-knowing brother E stated in a direct manner, and I do mean direct, that "mom will NOT let you trade ANY cards." Seems as if the trading of cards has caused a problem before.

"Okay Perry, this is what I'll do. I will pray really hard tonight. My mom lets me pray every night and tonight I will definitely pray for that card for you in your next pack."
That boy G - preacher to be.

He's the cutie on the left.

A boy can never have enough praying friends.

"This is the Best Snow Day Ever"
We woke up this morning to a beautiful blanket of snow - approximately 5 inches out our way. As soon as Phil told Perry it was time to go out and shovel, Perry scrambled up the stairs to get dressed, giggling like a little school girl. His best friend and next door neighbor Blake came outside with his brother Payton and they all started working on building their snow friend. Forget shoveling now, it's time to play! (Notice that their snow guy is listening to an ipod - kids are so hip and technical these days.)
Our neighbor (and dentist) on the next street over also took the kids on a four-wheel sled ride. (Thanks Doc!)
After all of their snow adventures, we finally coaxed Perry inside to get a hot shower and lunch. As he was stripping down to his skivvies in the garage, he exclaimed "I'm so glad God made this snow for us. This is my best snow day ever."

Are You Gooder At Grammar?
Your Language Arts Grade: 100%

Way to go! You know not to trust the MS Grammar Check and you know "no" from "know." Now, go forth and spread the good word (or at least, the proper use of apostrophes).

Are You Gooder at Grammar?
Make a Quiz

I took this quiz because I just knew that I would pass with flying colors... I LOVE me some grammar!

My mother - who taught 5th graders for over 30 years - would be so proud. She is my greatest influence to read everything you can get your hands on at a library, write correctly, and use proper grammar.

I am also employed by an ad agency. The majority of my peers here are college-educated, journalism-degreed, creative individuals. But you would be amazed by the grammar that is used in memos, emails, and even agency message boards.

Hideous, I tell ya!

If one more person sends out an agency-wide memo informing everyone that "your invited to partake in sweets at the bar," I will forever roll my eyes and sigh a heavy sigh in disgrace of their grammar mistake.

But then again - why sweat the small stuff, right?

Besides, I would be awfully cranky if I didn't get invited to the bar for all the sweets being gifted during the holiday season. I just love me some sweets!

I Hope I Just Didn't Jinx Us!
At this time of the year, we receive catalog after catalog in our mailbox. Today I think I counted over 16 of them... one of them being a cigar magazine. Seriously? A cigar magazine? I will never understand how we got on that list.

But the one surprise in our mailbox today were Chiefs playoff tickets - for 2 games - for some to be determined date in January.

The Chiefs are 7 and 4 - doing okay - but I guess we're in a wildcard position right now. And with the holidays approaching and all, I guess they think the extra $560 from us earlier rather than later will help keep us from spending it all on Christmas presents.... or property tax... or a plasma tv. Well, scratch that last priority- that's definitely not in our budget. But Chiefs tickets are always in our budget and rank right up there with utilities and the mortgage. My die-hard family will be hoping and praying to use those tickets sometime in January.

And don't forget to look for us if we're at the playoff game - we'll be in RED!
